Tom Dean’s original and provocative art-making career was recognized in 1999 with the great honour of being chosen as the sole Canadian representative at the 1999 Venice Biennale. His works for that show included bronze sculptures of eight-breasted dogs and of various parts of the human body, and print works utilizing women’s dresses and newspapers.

Tom’s art has been collected by such major institutions as the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, and Canada’s National Ballet School. He has been featured in cover articles in Canadian Art magazine, C magazine, and Parachute magazine.
