FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MOCCA Announces the official launch of Balint Zsako | Works from the Bernardi Collection @ Art Metropole

Toronto, May 23, 2009 – The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art is pleased to announce the official launch of our latest publication, Balint Zsako | Works from the Bernardi Collection, taking place at Art Metropole world headquarters at 788 King St. West, on Saturday May 30, 2009, from 1 to 3 p.m. To celebrate the release of this stunning hardcover book, the first in his young career, Balint Zsako will make the trip to Toronto from his current home in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Still in his twenties, Balint Zsako has been extremely active within the last half-dozen years or so, producing and exhibiting his drawings, watercolours, paintings, sculpture and photography in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Toronto and beyond. Balint Zsako | Works from the Bernardi Collection is published to mark Zsako’s solo exhibition that took place at MOCCA in 2008 that featured a selection of his delightfully quirky and vaguely sinister drawings and watercolours from the collection of Sarnia, Ontario collector Roy Bernardi. Mr. Bernardi is noted for his significant holdings of important contemporary art that includes such prominent Canadian artists as Paterson Ewen, Marcel Dzama and John Scott.

The fully-illustrated, 156-page publication features a text and interview with the artist by renowned Winnipeg writer and publisher Robert Enright, a short text by New York writer and advisor Robert Curcio, and a foreword by MOCCA Artistic Director and Curator David Liss. This high-quality publication is available for a very reasonable $45.00 dollars. Come to Art Met on May 30th and meet Balint Zsako and, if you ask nicely, he may be persuaded to personally sign your copy!

Balint Zsako | Works from the Bernardi Collection is published by the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art and generously supported by George Hartman, with additional assistance from Gesta Abols, Stephen Smart, Katharine Mulherin, Robert Poulin, Gissa and Bernard Schiff, Camilo Alvarez, and Rebecca Hossack. Balint Zsako is represented in Toronto by Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects.
