SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER at MOCCA !!!!!!
THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY CANADIAN ART
SELECTIONS FROM THE PERMANENT COLLECTION
June 16 to August 26, 2001
The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art is pleased to present a summer blockbuster !!!! exhibition of extraordinary paintings and photographs selected from our permanent collection. Currently MOCCA’s holdings include almost 400 works of art in all media by more than 140 of Canada’s most important emerging and established artists.
For the painting section of this exhibition, Revolver Gallery’s Michael Adamson and MOCCA’s David Liss have selected eight works that together display a vast range of rich, dynamic and lush surfaces. Gouged grooves by Paterson Ewen, swirling movement by Jack Bush, David Craven and David Urban, and encrusted impasto treatments by Howard Simkins and Harold Klunder, will inspire viewers to want to bite, lick, feel and taste these scrumptious visual feasts!
In a highly unlikely, yet amusing way, the photography component of the exhibition groups works by Barbara Astman, Ed Burtynsky, Angela Grauerholz, Henry Gordillo, Arni Haraldsson, Roy Kiyooka, Damian Moppett, Volker Seding, Ian Wallace and Kelly Wood exploring themes related to architecture and human behaviour. Although there is no didactic unifying undercurrent here, this show may inspire viewers to reflect upon what a strange and wondrous species we are.
The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art has entered an exciting new era in which we intend to build upon the foundation of its former identity as the Art Gallery of North York. Come by the Galley this summer and stay tuned for our exciting Fall 2001 Program. You’re gonna love it!
