THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY CANADIAN ART
PRESENTS
COME PART MENTAL : an exhibition by Floria Sigismondi
September 14 to October 28, 2001
The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art is pleased to present COME PART MENTAL: an exhibition by Floria Sigismondi, taking place in our galleries from September 14 to October 28, 2001. Toronto/New York-based artist Floria Sigismondi is internationally recognized in the world of pop-culture for the innovative and eccentric music videos she has created for Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, Bjork and Robert Plant, among others, in addition to Redemption, a hardcover volume of her photographic work published in Germany in 1998.
The exhibition at MOCCA will include a selection of Floria’s popular photographs along with recent installations, sculptural objects, videos and photographs. Despite the wide range of media, the thematic current that connects all of her work is the persistent, and often troublesome relationship between humans, nature, science and technology, and the implications these relationships may have on the future of our species. These concerns are particularly resonant in our current era of accelerated technological development, body modification and medical, genetic and biotech research.
COME PART MENTAL will be Floria Sigismondi’s first major solo exhibition in Canada.
A public reception celebrating COME PART MENTAL: an exhibition by Floria Sigismondi will take place at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art on September 14, 2001, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. The artist will be present.
In order to find ourselves we must destroy ourselves. The human race craves the experience. — Floria Sigismondi
