September 27th, 6:30 pm: THE ART DEPT.: mocca patrons’ private collection walking tour. Offered exclusively to THE ART DEPT.: mocca patrons

  • Let’s walk and talk about contemporary art! Join us as we visit the private collections of Guy Knowles and Steve Wilson & Michael Simmonds on MacPherson Street, followed by dinner and discussion at local restaurant Avant Gout (1108 Yonge Street).

October 22nd, 6:30 pm: Studio visit with artist Ed Pien!
Offered to Associate Members and up ($500+)

  • Renowned Toronto-based artist Ed Pien welcomes MOCCA Members into his studio for a behind-the-scenes look at his art practice.
  • Ed Pien is the artist behind the 2012 Art Toronto benefit edition, Leap, a waterjet-cut aluminum sculpture (12 x 213/4 x 1/8 inches, $2,000 each, edition of 25) produced to benefit MOCCA.
  • Ed has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally, and is currently included in the 2012 Sydney Biennale in Australia and Oh, Canada, a survey of Canadian art at MASS MOCA in the United States.

October 27th: 2012 Sobey Art Award 10th Anniversary Exhibition

  • Join us at MOCCA for the launch of the exhibition!
  • Sobey Art Award shortlisted artists:
  • Gareth Moore (West Coast and the Yukon); Jason de Haan (Prairies and the North); Derek Sullivan (Ontario); Raphaëlle de Groot (Quebec); and Eleanor King (Atlantic).

 

October 28th, 12:00 pm: Collecting Art, Collecting Ideas / Members’ Education Series. Offered to Contributing Members and up ($250+)

  • Arts tour leader and journalist Betty Ann Jordan guides MOCCA Members through Art Toronto 2012, with an eye to ‘Seeking the Radiant’ as viewers and collectors:
  • Light today has taken on intriguing new meanings in view of recent scientific advances in quantum- and astro-physics as well as innovations in imaging technology. We will zero in on illuminating works in all media and discuss aspects of light or the fecund possibilities of darkness as seen in today’s art.
  • Limited registration, RSVP requested.
  • Meet at MOCCA’s booth (# 1414) at Art Toronto, Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Art Toronto entrance fee not included.
